Loughrea Moat (13th Century)

Amazing to see probably the only working moat left in Ireland: along the wall of the old town.

Are you sure that's a moat? Kinda looks a little like a ditch... Or is there a difference?

Yes, it is a moat. Seems it was trimmed back considerably over the years with the encroachment of modern 'civilisation'.

Is it a case of 'a moat in the eye of the beholder'?

That's amazing. Is it stream fed or just rain fed?
